Laguna on the Same Page-

Laguna on the Same Page is a city-wide reading program, whereby everyone in the community is encouraged to read the same book at the same time, discuss it in their reading groups and social circles, then come together at an event to hear the author's views.

We spend serious time considering our Laguna on the Same Page book choices. We decided that we will mix up our selections – choose books from all over the reading spectrum. However, each book must meet the requirements of being (a) a good read, (b) have a broad appeal, (c) entertain, enlighten, or engage us in some way, and (d) be a vehicle for a community wide event. Which, actually, gives us a lot of latitude (excuse the pun).

We launched our program with T.C. Boyle's Tortilla Curtain, followed by Janet Fitch's Paint it Black, and most recently, Mitch Albom's For One More Day. Stay tuned for the announcement of our next book choice.

We will, as usual, be offering a 20% discount on the next book, have reading group guides available to facilitate your group’s discussions, and encourage everyone to read and talk about the story and its greater implications.

Indie Bound
- Why Shop Indie?

When you shop at an independently owned business, your entire community benefits:

The Economy

    * Spend $100 at a local and $68 of that stays in your community. Spend the same $100 at a national chain, and your community only sees $43.
    * Local businesses create higher-paying jobs for our neighbors.
    * More of your taxes are reinvested in your community--where they belong.

The Environment

    * Buying local means less packaging, less transportation, and a smaller carbon footprint.
    * Shopping in a local business district means less infrastructure, less maintenance, and more money to beautify your community.

The Community

    * Local retailers are your friends and neighbors-support them and they'll support you.
    * Local businesses donate to charities at more than twice the rate of national chains.
    * More independents means more choice, more diversity, and a truly unique community.

Now is the time to stand up and join your fellow individuals in the IndieBound mission supporting local businesses and celebrating independents.
